UK retailers have increased the volume of clothing discounts by 18% in August, as Britain plunges into recession for the first time in 11 years.

The number of fashion discounts are currently up 18%, compared to August 2019 figures.

Fashion sales dropped by almost a third in April and anxious retailers are now slashing fashion prices in a bid to increase sales. Clothing prices have fallen by 6% this summer, the lowest they’ve been in August for 5 years.

Stuart McClure, co-founder of LovetheSales.com, said on the extreme levels of discounting, “Retailers are fully aware of the job they have on their hands. Nearly 3 months of lockdown has left UK retailers with billions of pounds worth of summer fashion to sell. As we enter the Autumn Winter part of the fashion calendar, time is running out for retailers to shift built up stock.”

In an analysis of over 1,000 UK retailers, LovetheSales.com delves into the brands leading the way in the dramatic discounting.
